3 Confessions – #Blogtober16 Day 29

I’m not sure what I’ve got to confess that  a) I’d want to share and b) what you’d want to read?!

Here goes I guess!

1. I’m a tv addict. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this at some point before, but I really am.

Anything nice and cheerful such as Criminal Minds, CSI or Grey’s Anatomy is a lovely evening in by myself.

Mr H and I love to spend a cozy evening in catching up on Eastenders or Casualty.

2. I’m not sure I should even admit to this, I’m taking a risk at being labelled a very bad Brit.

I can’t stand tea! The smell alone makes me heave, let alone the taste.

I don’t like coffee either, though I do at least like the smell. I’d happily sit in a coffee shop for the afternoon, but I wouldn’t want to drink the stuff.

3. I’m pretty bloody proud of myself for getting this far in Blogtober!! Can’t believe I can see the finish line, this month of them all. I really hope I can keep up with the organisation and make posts more regular. I certainly won’t be making it everyday throughout November too, but there shouldn’t be any excuse not to post at least once a week!

My Favourite Instagram Photo – #Blogtober16 Day 28

There are so many photos I love on Instagram, but following on from today’s earlier post (this one here) my current favourite photo is our first photo as a family of four.

Here’s the link to my Instagram page in case newborn baby spam is your thing! There’ll be plenty of baby and toddler photos over the coming weeks…and possibly the occasional wiped out desperate for sleep selfie. But it’s totally worth it!

Place I would Most Like to Visit – #Blogtober16 Day 27

It’s probably cheating a bit to choose somewhere so big, but I’d love to visit America.

There’s loads of different states and places I’d like to see.

One big road trip would be amazing, but a complete dream. It would probably take years to actually visit everywhere I’d like to.

There’s so many different places and things to see. The only time I’ve been to America is to go to Las Vegas for my 21st birthday. It was absolutely incredible! Such an amazing place and the best holiday. I’d go back tomorrow, and still probably leave feeling like there was more to see. So fascinating.

For the rest of America, it’s a bit of an obvious choice for me, but I’d start with Florida and the theme parks. I’ve always (as most children have) wanted to go to Disneyland, but now I think I want to go more than ever! Harry Potter at Universal Studios?! I’d love to spend at least a week just in that one park!

I’m a real thrill seeker when it comes to roller coasters too so it would just be so much fun. In dream world I would really love to spend a few weeks, taking in all the different parks, and having time to relax in the Florida sun in between.

Also, who doesn’t want to do New York at Christmas time? The chance of snow in Central Park, and visiting the Christmas tree at the Rockerfeller centre like on Home Alone? Just magical!

A sunshine paradise holiday in Hawaii? Yes please! Or Autumn and Halloween in Salem? Or skiing in Colorado? There’s just so many places to see, and a chance to enjoy all the seasons too. I think that’s what entices me the most, the fact that some places actually experience all the seasons. I love summer and I love winter…it would just be nice to have both unlike typical uk!

Sometimes I think it would be nice to move to Indianapolis (I have a cousin there which is why I’d choose it) because they truly get to enjoy all the seasons, and the Autumn is just beautiful. Also, snow in winter! White Christmas?!

Ok enough of my rambling about America! I think you all get the idea by now :)

Top 10 Favourite Songs – #Blogtober16 Day 26

This has been ridiculously hard! Trying to narrow it down and choose just 10 songs has been so difficult.

So many songs have special meanings to me, from childhood “classics” like the Spice Girls, teenage angst like Eminem or Christmas classics from Bublé.

In no particular order, these are 10 of my favourite or most meaningful songs. Some are just plain fun!

1. Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – our first dance at our wedding reception. We didn’t want anything too slow, the idea was for everyone to join in with the dancing, but no one did!

2. Truly, Madly, Deeply (Savage Garden) – another song from our wedding, this is what I walked down the aisle to. We chose this as “our” song when we were younger. There are more songs now that mean more to us, but it’ll still always be special.

3. How Long Will I Love You (Ellie Goulding) – this was played a lot when I was pregnant with G, and it was on in the car the first time I felt him flutter and move.

4. Love Me For A Reason (Boyzone) – I mentioned in the post about concerts how much I loved Boyzone when I was younger. In fact cheesy 90’s pop was/is very much my taste! This is the first song I can remember being utterly obsessed with, and the video too.

5. C’est La Vie (B*witched) – sticking with the cheesy pop factor, this is played at every party and gathering with friends, usually when there’s alcohol involved I’ll admit (though it’s not always necessary either!) We will always requested for this to be played, and we will always make a bad attempt at Irish dancing!

6. I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor) – this became a bit of an anthem for me and my Mum years ago. We don’t need it anymore, not to cheer us up anyway, but it’s still a good reminder, and we like to have a good song along and dance to it when it’s played.

7. Mysterious Girl (Peter Andre) – and I’m drawn back to the cheese again! I cant remember the exact time I found out, but many years ago I discovered that Mr H knows ALL the words, including the rap, so now he must (at force or bribery) sing it for me at every party/disco/night out whenever I can get it played. This is guaranteed to make me smile, and love him a little bit more everytime!

8. Who Loves You (Four Seasons/Jersey Boys Musical) – we went to see the musical in the West end a few years ago, and were familiar with most of the songs anyway, but the film version of the musical was out not long after we had G. It was our first date post baby. A few days later I heard Mr H singing this to G in the small hours and my heart melted. And now it always will when I hear it.

9. Half The World Away (Oasis) – I’ve mentioned it many times before, but I’m a TV addict. Many of my favourite shows to watch were introduced to me by Mr H, how I missed them before I don’t know! Probably the main one, and one of our favourite shows to watch together is The Royle Family. We’ve seen every episode more times than I’d know, and the Christmas specials even more than that. The theme tune always makes me think of cozy evenings in with Mr H.

10. I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston) – as a child this was probably my all time favourite, and my first “car karaoke” song. My mum had the Bodyguard album on cassette in the car, and this was the best track to belt along with. Even now I can’t skip the song if it comes on shuffle, even if it’s not the mood I was looking for. And I have to sing along, it’s just the unsaid rule!

That is a very narrowed down list, I could have gone on forever!

What Super Power Would You Most Like – #Blogtober16 Day 25

This is a tough choice.

As a mum I wish daily for super powers!

Flying – for all those times you’re running late. It can’t just be me?!

Speed – to catch up with pesky run away toddlers, and to get the cleaning done in a fraction of the time.

Invisibility – for five minutes peace! Honestly, they’re not exaggerating when they say you can’t even pee in peace!

Mind reading – I would only want this for babies and toddlers though, to decipher all those cries and babbles they yell at you frustrated, that sound nothing like actual words. I’d have to get rid of it by the teenage years! As lovely as it would be to know what they’re up to, I fear a teenagers mind is just too scary a place to be!

I think if I just had to choose just one it would be the speed.

What would you choose?

Disney Character You Identify With – #Blogtober16 Day 24

I’m not sure there’s a character that I really identify with.

I probably could have come up with one of I’d thought about this post a bit longer, but I’m scheduling in advance, and trying to get as many of the #Blogtober16 posts ready before I have a baby (it’s possible he’s arrived by the time you’re reading this!) and I didn’t start this one in advance enough to give it any proper thought.

So I’m going to cheat a little bit, and just tell you my favourite characters. The limited version, because I love Disney  and could probably make this post stupidly long!

1.Mulan – what better role model you could you want for youngsters? Ok, so I don’t really want my kids running off to war, especially if I’ve already said no, but breaking stereotypes and doing what you believe in is nothing to be ashamed off.

2. Mrs Jumbo – possibly more along the lines of identifying with, she’s a proud Mama who would do anything for her precious baby. And if anyone verbally or physically attacked my babies like that I’d have kicked off too!

3. Olaf – for pure comedy factor, and I love the way G gets excited when he spots him, during the film or toys in shops, it’s so cute to hear him shouting for “Oh-haff”

Time For Ourselves

As parents having time to ourselves doesn’t happen often. And sometimes we don’t let it happen. There’s always something else to do or someone else to put first. That’s our job as parents, as adults’ right?

Well yes, but you also can’t look after everyone else if you don’t look after yourself. If you’ve ever been on an airplane you’ll know that the safety protocol in case of an emergency is to put on your own oxygen mask before helping to secure others, including children. This is because you can’t help anyone if you’ve passed out!

Whilst day to day life might not be as serious as that emergency situation on a plane, we all need to look after ourselves a little more in order to be able to properly look after those around us.

It doesn’t need to be a big thing, just make time for a hot shower, a quick exercise class (I’m loving YouTube yoga at the moment) or 10 minutes alone listening to your favourite music. There’s never going to be the perfect time to do these things. There’ll always be something that you feel needs doing, the dishwasher needs unloading or toys need putting away. But sometimes 10 minutes to yourself to feel a little more like you, is exactly what you need to be a more productive person and maybe even a better parent if you’re not running on empty all the time.

I know I need to listen to my own advice sometimes, as many of us do!

How do you make time for yourself? What is your favourite “me time” treat?

My Favourite Time of Year – #Blogtober16 Day 23

Anyone who knows me, even just a little bit, is probably well aware of the answer to this.

IT’S CHRIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSTMAAAAAASSSSSS!!!

I love it! I love the build up, the planning, the decorating, the evenings out to see the lights.
It’s so much more than just the presents and the day.

It’s making time to spend with your family, especially the extra effort to see the family you don’t get to see as often. Special trips in the run up to Christmas, to switchons, carol services, pantomimes, bake sales.

And if trips out are too much, there’s snuggly afternoons curled up on the sofa watching too many Christmas films with special hot chocolate and gingerbread biscuits.

Do you get the idea? I just love Christmas!

There’s no need to go overboard on presents. When you think back to Christmases past you almost never remember the presents you got, but the times spent together, food eaten and things made. Though the food but might just be the greedy one in me ;)

My Biggest Acomplishment – #Blogtober16 Day 22

Is it too cheesy to say my family, my husband and kids? Well, even if it is, they are!

It’s not that I’ve not done anything else in my life that I’m proud of, but it’s the biggest thing that means something to me.

When I was growing up, all I wanted was to be a mother and a partner, preferably a wife. In the same way people dreamed of careers or traveling, being a mum was all I wanted.

Generally they’re not something you can actually plan. You can’t plan to meet the right partner, or have children. Even if you do meet them, unforeseen complications can affect anyone, and things just don’t work out the way you’d like. Often this isn’t bad, just different.

Maybe this isn’t right to class it as my biggest accomplishment, I mean it’s not like I worked at it and made it happen as such. But also marriage and being a mum is something that I need to work on every day, through the good and the bad!

But they are what I’m most proud of and what I most love about myself.

Cheesy or not!!

A Letter To…Our First Born, Before You Become A Big Brother – #Blogtober16 Day 21

Tonight as I put you to bed, I realised it would be the last time you would sleep in your bed as an only child.

This weekend you’ll be staying with your grandparents, as you often do on weekends, and if your baby brother doesn’t arrive before I’ll be induced to have him on Sunday. In which case you might end up staying with grandparents a little longer.

I’m sure that’s not going to be too much of a hardship with all the extra milky bar buttons you’ll be spoiled with!

I’m excited that we’re going to have another little member of the tribe, and that you’re going to have a little sidekick to grow up with.

But it was still a bittersweet feeling, knowing that my first baby is going to be a big brother.

You’re still only little yourself (I know, I know, you’re a big boy but you’re still our baby!) but I hope you know that we will love you just as much as we always have no matter how different things might be.

Tonight the bedtime routine went completely out the window, and I squeezed myself in beside you and cwtched you until you fell asleep.

You won’t remember tonight, but I will.

We love you so much G

Lots of love, Mum & Dad xxx
