Babies…Or Not Anymore!

Just a short post today. It may only be day two but I failed to prepare so am throwing this together last minute.

I did say that there may be some short, photo based posts ;)

So today’s Blogtober prompt title is Babies. And by the end of this month I won’t have a baby any more. Ok, so they will always ALWAYS be my babies, but I mean chronologically B will not be a baby.

To be fair he hasn’t been a baby for a long time now. He’s been on the move longer than he was stationery. He’s never been that small, but he’s super tall and already measuring up to other children at playgroup. He’s learning so much every single day.

But these photos from today’s supermarket trip really made me stop in my tracks. G is looking more grown up all the time, there’s barely a trace of the toddler he was. No chubby wrists or fluffy hair. He’s a little boy now. And B is looking more like a toddler than the baby. His face is thinning and less squishy, his features more child than baby.

It’s bittersweet. Of course I couldn’t be happier, watching them both learn and grow, watching them develop into the strong personalities they have. But when they’re drifting off to sleep in my arms I soak up all the baby-like cwtches I can. Before they really aren’t happy to be my “babies” anymore.

“All About Me” Being A Rubbish Blogger!

It’s October today. October!

At the risk of sounding like a huge cliche, where on earth did September go? Or the last year for that matter!

This time last year I joined in with my first Blogtober. And I’m pretty proud to say I completed it even though B was born during October. But I can’t say that I’ve kept up with blogging very well. In fact, lately I’ve been downright rubbish. I haven’t published anything in over two months. That’s not to say I haven’t written anything, or needed to write anything.

I just haven’t been brave enough to post anything. I can’t really say why. Nothing I’m writing is particularly groundbreaking or controversial, and I may never win any awards for writing but I don’t think my writing is TOO bad? But I can’t stop second guessing my self, my writing, my sharing and just if it’s any good at all.

Even this post is a struggle to write. I’m going over stuff, rewriting, rethinking each paragraph. I just can’t figure out why! There hasn’t been any negative comments. So why don’t I feel like any of it is good enough?

I suppose the last few months have been hard, mentally. I have a post in drafts which explains more about it (which I do plan on publishing!) so I won’t go into it now, but I think this could have had a knock on effect, making me doubt if I’m good enough to even blog.

I’m hoping this Blogtober will give me a new energy and confidence. I really got a lot out of joining in last year, but having a newborn it just wasn’t possible to keep up any sort of routine or frequency. Or any sort of actual thought process to be fair!!

At least this time it’s more likely that it’ll give me a nudge to start posting at least every week, if not more. And I’m going to try not to second guess everything too much, and get into the habit of just publishing again. I don’t exactly want to “just publish” any old crap, but I’m not sharing anything at all so I feel like coming up with something for each daily Blogtober prompt is going to help get back into it.

I’m going to use the daily titles as prompts, and that may include stories of general life and parenting, reviews of products I’ve received recently and maybe sometimes just little snapshots. I may just juggle the order a little too but I’ll see how well I can stick to it for now.

So, enough of my rambling! Let’s crack on with a fun and busy month!

I’m Going to Blog On May ’17!

This coming weekend I’m going to my first ever Blog On conference. I went to Britmums last year, but have heard such amazing things about Blog On I was really determined to find out what all the fuss is about.
I’m really excited to get to catch up and meet up with bloggers that I speak to most days, and to actually talk to them face to face! WARNING – I’m a hugger!

But I am also sh*tting myself quite frankly! I’m always worried I don’t ‘fit in’ and people will wonder who on earth I am. Or that I’ll trip over walking into a session and make a complete tit of myself. Even though I had a really lovely experience at Britmums last year I’m still feeling really anxious. I don’t have my baby bump to hide behind for starters, and I’ll be going in by myself rather than with some of the other Welsh bloggers.
In my usual Last Minute Larry fashion, I’ve still not finalised all the details of travel etc for the weekend, and this is probably the last addition to the Blog On ice breaker linky but I didn’t want to miss out on the chance to answer these and attempt to introduce myself.

Share a recent picture of you (if you are an anonymous blog, a drawing is fine)

I’m almost always found with sunglasses. It’s not a wannabe fame thing, pregnancy gave me super sensitive eyes.

These were my absolute favourite pair, til I sat on them earlier in the week. Balls.

Quite possibly wearing this dress to the conference l, though I haven’t decided what will be comfiest/coolest/easiest to pump in!

Describe yourself in three words

Eclectic, imaginative, loyal.

How long have you been blogging and what made you start?

It’s been roughly 3 years, but its been a gradual thing.
It was supposed to be a baking/cookery blog, but it developed over time as most people’s blogs do. I think it was inspired by the Great British Bake Off as some of them already had food blogs.

• What was the inspiration behind your blog name?

It’s my surname, and just something I’d referred to our home as for a while.

What is the best thing to come from your blog so far?

Friends! Genuinely lovely people I’m pleased to call true friends that I’ve come to know both online and in “real life”.

Your most remembered thing from your childhood

Summer holidays spent with my cousins. Washing up liquid on tarpaulin sheets, learning to ride my bike confidently, making rose petal perfume, making mud pies, trips to the beach. So many lovely times spent with them.

• Something interesting you might not know about me is…

I met my husband at 16 and we’re still happily together now, 12 years on.

• Which social media platform best describes your personality and why?

Twitter. Random, flaky, can be very strange and occasionally writes some gems. I like to think that describes me fairly well.

• What is your happy song?

McFly’s Stargirl. It’s been an alarm song on my phone for years but lately my 3 year old really loves it and dances along. It really cheers me up, proper small child “dance like no ones watching” dance party.

• What is your favourite alcoholic drink?

I don’t drink all that often usually, but I can’t resist a cherry brandy and coke, especially at Christmas time.

• What is your favourite cake?

Lemon Drizzle cake. Especially Mr H’s Gran’s lemon drizzle cake.

• What is your favourite takeaway dish?

Pizza. I can never say no to pizza. Ever!

• Where is your dream holiday destination and why?

Florida, I’d love to go to Disney and the Universal Studios. I’d like to spent at least a week in the Harry Potter one. In fact I reckon my dream trip would last at least a month to spend enough time everywhere.

What would your superhero name be?

OctoGirl, becasue I always have at least 8 different things on the go.

• If you had a magical power, would you want to have and why?

The ability to freeze time (anyone remember Bernard’s watch on CITV?) think of all the stuff I’d actually get done!

• What one weapon would help you survive a zombie apocalypse?

Wasn’t it vinyl records beheading zombies in Shaun of the Dead? That’s the only “zombie” film I’ve seen so I’m going to go with a boomerang vinyl record, that always comes back so I’m always armed.

• If you could send something into space, what would it be?

Donald Trump. No need for an explanation really is there!?

• What would you have on your gravestone?

Told you it was as bad as I said ;)
I may be a slightly over dramatic person.

• You make headline news around the world in 2 years time… but for what reason?

I’d genuinely like it to be as writer or vlogger.
But most likely it would be something daft like “Clumsy woman trips and falls into most obvious hole ever!”

• If an EMP wiped out all mechanical forms of transport, how would you get to BlogOn?

I was going to say boat, but I definitely do not have the sort of fitness to row from South Wales to Manchester. I don’t even know if thats possible. So I’m going to say I’d borrow a horse. Would need some paracetamol and a comfy seat by the time I get there though.

So that’s a little bit of weird and (hopefully) interesting info about me!

Will I be seeing you at Blog On this weekend? Please don’t be afraid to come and say Hi!

Happy Halloween! – #Blogtober16 Day 31 and the Final Day!!

Happy Halloween everyone!

I can’t quite believe it, but I’ve actually managed to completed #Blogtober16 hosted by Hex Mum Blog

I honestly thought I wouldn’t have a hope! A week, maybe 2, and I’d fizzle out, lose concentration with it and have a baby which would throw me right off. But I’ve actually managed to post every single day this month AND have a baby! I’m completely shocked!

I won’t be continuing the daily posts through November, but I might look at something similar for Blogmas, but we’ll see how life is going by then. Daily blogging with a week old baby is very different than when they’re a tiny bit older! Newborns are the easiest part if you ask me!

I’ve loved this challenge though, and even though some of my posts have been quite short, it’s been brilliant for getting me slightly organised and getting better at scheduling etc. I really hope I can continue to get posts out more regularly (though not daily) and spend a little bit of time each week getting them ready and scheduled.

A big thank you to Hex Mum Blog for this challenge!!

Halloween –

We didn’t do a lot for it this year as I’m still recovering from the birth.

We did put up some decorations around the house, and watch Halloween specials of some children’s shows, Peppa pig etc. But G is a bit young to go trick or treating just yet, though he had a lot of fun dishing sweets out to the ones who called to us.

I do feel a bit bad that more effort wasn’t made, especially as G was so intrigued by the “spooky oooOoooOo” stuff this year, but he’s probably just young enough to not notice too much. Next year we’ll have to make up for it, maybe it’ll be his first year trick or treating too.

Big effort may not have been made, but we still couldn’t resist the first chance for a #twinningiswinning costumes for both boys!

B may not have been too fussed, but G was really pleased with his outfit, and that his baby brother was matching.
I hope you all had a fun Halloween and thank you for following throughout #Blogtober16!

What Am I Most Afraid Of – #Blogtober16 Day 30

I try really hard not to show it to G, but I’m really not fond of spiders.

I know it’s a bit cliched and there’s no logical reason to be scared of them, but they just freak me out!

I’m not a big fan of any insect type thing really, but the legs and the way spiders move just really creep me out!

Though I do try really hard not to pass my fears on to G. When there are spiders outside I do take him to see them, but there’s no touching, you know, for the spiders sake!
